The “limerick” below was written around 1919 soon after Sir Arthur Eddington experimentally confirmed Einstein’s postulate (of the General Theory of Relativity of 1916 ) that heavy gravitational bodies would bend light rays. Einstein became world famous but his ideas were abstract and even bizarre creating funny stories. Einstein enjoyed the jokes.
There was a young lady called Bright
Whose speed was much faster than light
She went out one day
In a relative way
And came back the previous night!
There was the funny story about time slowing down in a space ship moving at speeds approaching velocity of light. suppose that A one of two twins, each aged sixteen years, was forced into a space journey at speed of light for say fifty years while the other B was forced to stay at home. After fifty years the space vehicle unexpectedly returns . A is as young as when he went up but B becomes an old man of (16+50= 66) years.
(The “limerick” is quoted from “Einstein –Life and times”, by Ronald.W. Clark . Courtsey Avon Books, New York.)
